What is Mobilegeddon?
Mobilegeddon is what some SEO experts have been calling Google’s latest search engine algorithm change. In February Google announced that for searches on mobile devices, sites which were not mobile friendly would be less likely to feature in the search results.
Why does is matter?
In 2014, 60% of all searches were performed on a mobile device. That means that if your website is excluded from 60% of the search results you will probably be losing business as a result.
How can I tell if my website is Mobile Friendly?
Google have released a tool which will allow you to check if your site is mobile friendly. Click here to open a new window which contains the test tool. Enter the address of your website and click the Analyze button. The tool will process your website and tell you the result.
If it returns Awesome, that’s great. You don’t need to do anything. Your site will continue to feature in Google rankings. If you’d like it to rank higher, please contact us to discuss how we can help you.

How Can We Fix It?
We can create a mobile friendly version of your website which visitors will automatically be redirected to if they are using a mobile device.
To demonstrate, here is out old site as seen by the Googlebot. Unsurprisingly, it failed the Google mobile test! It is pretty unreadable with it’s small fonts and fixed size layout.
The site is still perfectly readable using any desktop or laptop PC, so in order to use it as an example, we chose not to rewrite it, but to simply use a little technical wizardry to create a mobile version of the site.
And this is how the new mobile version looks now. The desktop version is unchanged and only users on a mobile device see the updated version.
This new mobile site passes the mobile friendly test. Notice also the new buttons for Call Us and Find Us, which use the phone’s inbuilt phone and map to give you instant, 1-click calling and access to directions and even Google’s streetmap if the user is on an Android device.
The additional benefit of this innovative solution is that the mobile website automatically synchronizes with the desktop version, so if you change a phone number or add a fresh news story, then the mobile site will be automatically updated. If this is something you would benefit from please use our contact form or give us a call on 0118 974 5419 and we can demonstrate how the new mobile face of your website might look.
